Wildlife Watching Expeditions in Iran

Discover the incredible wildlife of Iran with our specialized expeditions, including brown bear watching and birdwatching across the country. Experience the thrill of observing majestic stags (Cervus elaphus maral) in their natural habitat, particularly in the scenic regions of Rudbarak, located between Mazandaran and Semnan, and Golestanak near Chalous.

One of the highlights of our wildlife tours is the Caspian red deer (Cervus elaphus maral), an easternmost subspecies of red deer native to areas between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea. This noble deer, also known as maral or eastern red deer, can be found in regions such as Crimea, Asia Minor, the Caucasus Mountains, and along the Caspian Sea region in Iran.

For birdwatching enthusiasts, Iran offers an extraordinary range of avian species. One standout is the Iranian Ground Jay, also known as Pleske's Ground Jay. This bird is endemic to Iran, making it the country's only endemic bird and earning it the title of the "Iran National Bird."

Our expeditions also include visits to Khar Touran National Park, a premier destination for wildlife enthusiasts. Here, you can witness a variety of species in their pristine environment, including the endangered Asiatic  cheetah(Acinonyx jubatus venaticus) and the Persian ass (Equus hemionus onager) .This park is a haven for wildlife and a must-visit for nature lovers, visiting the park requires a special permit from the ministry of environment.

When is the Best Time to Visit?

Brown Bears:  The best time to see brown bears is in early spring, with April and May being the optimal months.

Stags: For observing stags, the ideal time is during their mating season in September.

Migratory Birds:  December and January are the prime months for spotting migratory birds along the Caspian Sea, as well as in inland bodies of water and rice paddies.

Persian Ass and Asiatic Cheetahs:  Spotting the rare Persian ass or Asiatic cheetahs is more challenging and depends on luck. However, the rangers at Khar Touran National Park usually know their whereabouts, and we maintain a good working relationship with them.

How to Get to These Remote Areas?

All these activities take place in national parks or protected areas, which require a written permit from the Ministry of Environment. Trust us to handle all the paperwork for you! These locations are typically reached first by vehicle, followed by a short hike. We take care of all logistics, so all you need to bring is a pair of good binoculars and adequate clothing.
