When you visit Khoonegeli, you can choose from a variety of day hikes, ranging from gentle forest and subalpine pasture walks to challenging 3000-meter-plus summits. These summits are located about a 40-minute drive from our base camp. This region of Iran boasts one of the highest altitude differences in the world. The valleys run south to north, so a typical 3000-meter summit involves an altitude gain and loss of over 2000 meters, as hikes often start from around 1000 meters.
Under normal weather conditions, a hike to one of these summits typically takes 7-9 hours. Unless you hike on a Friday, which is the weekend in Iran, you are unlikely to encounter anyone except shepherds during the grazing season from June to October. We strive to take you to pristine, solitary areas for an authentic experience.
For these hikes, all you need is a day pack containing a water bottle, a packed lunch provided by the Khoonegeli chef, some additional clothing, and a pair of hiking boots. While you should bring your own personal gear, we can lend you trekking poles if needed. Water is available en route from natural sources and is safe to drink untreated, even for non-Iranian gut flora.
Some of the 3000-meter-plus summits are also accessible in winter. However, be aware that these hikes take much longer if there is heavy snow, which is common on the northern side of the Alborz mountain range.
The solitude and beauty of this part of the Alborz range have surprised many travellers. We invite you to join us for a hike and experience it for yourself. Feel free to write in or send a message to our WhatsApp or Telegram number found in the CONTACT section. Farzin and his team would be delighted to hear from you.
