Welcome to Caspian Trek

Caspian Trek is a family run enterprise dedicated to sustainable nature tourism. Since 2008 we have endeavoured to provide unique tailor-made services to discerning travellers looking for mountain sports and authentic rural Persian culture anywhere in this ancient land.

Alejandra and I met when she was doing a master’s degree in social anthropology at Goldsmith College, London. She now lives in Spain with our two children and spends the summers here in Khoonegeli. She has been a key figure in the design of the lodge.

Khoonegeli is the result of years of living in the diaspora, nostalgia and desperation to find roots or better said to get back to my roots.

WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE TO TREK WITH US

Khoonegeli

Is our home, which will also be your
home when you visit us. Ale and I designed
and built it when we came to Iran in 2003.

Iranian food

Northern Iranian Cuisine: A Culinary Delight

Northern Iranian cuisine is renowned as one of the most sought-after in the country, distinguished by its variety and complexity. Influenced by the humid climate of the southern Caspian region, this cuisine excels in rice, citrus fruits, tea, and kiwi cultivation. The lush greenery of the landscape is mirrored in its array of vegetarian and herb-based dishes. Fresh fish from the Caspian Sea is a staple, though it’s worth noting that fishing is limited to October through March; outside this period, salted and smoked fish is enjoyed.

Family holidays in Iran

Fantastic trek from Alamut Valley to the Caspian Sea with a great guide!

We are a family of four who spent 5 wonderful days with Farzin trekking across the mountain range from the Alamut Valley to Tonekabon. Not only did Farzin organise the entire trek including food, camping equipment etc as well as mules to carry the lot, he also found us a beautiful itinerary and proved to be a very knowledgeable guide. Not to mention that he is such a nice person! Farzin also organised another trek for us in the Zagros mountains which was an equally pleasant experience. We can really recommend his services to anyone interested in trekking in Iran.

Trekking with Farzin

My wife and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND partnering with Farzin if you want to safely trek in the Alborz mountains. And if you want to engage with probably the most hospitable and trusting people on our planet. We have travelled the world and the seven seas, and what lies in the Alborz mountains is very special. Our week was like walking across the pages of a pastoral poem.
From the business and logistics perspective, Farzin runs a tight ship. (Incidentally, he also owns a small ship if you want to swim in the Caspian Sea.) 100% professional and clearly tailored to meet and exceed Western expectations. He arranged extras for us, such as horses, swimming, and sumptuous vegetarian meals. Value for money is extraordinary.

Best trek with children ever

Farzin organised an amazing trek through the Alborz Mountains. My wife and I love hiking but this an be difficult with children. Farzin (who is great with kids) organised horses/mules for our kids, which they really enjoyed. During our three day trekking we stayed in a remote farmer village and eat almost only product produced by these farmers. We had such a great time thank to Farzin, who is also a very pleasant person to talk with. We will certainly do another trek with Farzin in the future!
